Whoo Hooo!

I passed my test on Nail and Skin Physiology, yes!  I am so glad that’s over.  Now I have to be sure to retain the information I learned because I will need to know it for finals and the state board.

Moving right along, I got to do my first pedicure last week.  And guess what, I didn’t forget to take pictures!  I couldn’t believe I was touching someone’s feet because once upon a time, I didn’t touch feet unless they belonged to me or they were attached to the ankle of a baby.  My how things have changed, who would’ve thought?  Certainly not me!

This week’s chapter review is titled: Natural Nail Services.  I will be paying close attention during this chapter since I would like to speaclize in natural nail care, we’ll see if that remains the same by the end of the program.

Talk to you later,

One week down, and fourteen more to go!

One week down, and fourteen more to go!  My manicure program is a 15 week course for part-time students and my schedule is; Monday – Thursday 5:00 – 9:00, and Saturday 8:30 – 5:00.  Have you ever been so tired that you can’t go to sleep?  Well with work, school, and my family some nights I’m so tired, I can’t sleep!  But I know this too shall pass.

Last week was my first week of school.  I wasn’t nervous just anxious to get started.  On the first night we had a two hour orientation and then straight to class. After the students and the instructor got acquainted with each other, we got straight into chapter one of our textbook which deals with Personal Development.  It’s pretty much common sense. We finished that up on day two.  After that we got into how to properly perform manicures and sanitation.  The following day we were allowed to perform manicures on each other and I forgot to take a picture but I promise I will next time.  My instructor said it should take about 20 minutes to perform a manicure, I think it took me about double the time but I know the more I practice, the better I will become.

Saturday we had our first test.  I got 4 wrong out of 45, but I guess that’s not too bad seeing as though I didn’t study but our workbooks are so detailed and repetitious, it’s almost impossible not to remember what the coordinating chapter is about, at least for now.

This week we are working on chapter 6, titled; Nail and Skin Physiology. It deals with the structure of the nail, nail diseases and nail disorders. We skipped to this chapter because our instructor thought it would benefit us more if we knew about this important information prior to performing services on clients, which makes sense to me. Who would’ve thought so much went into becoming a licensed nail tech?  Certainly not me!  I feel that by the time were done with this chapter, I’ll be able to enroll in a dermatology program!  No not seriously but there is a lot of serious information to remember in this chapter because as always, we must use proper sanitation and know if we can perform services on clients with certain nail disorders and nail diseases.  I’m really going to have to study this chapter and I am not looking forward to this upcoming test other than the fact that it will be over with.  Pray for me. J

After completing 40 hours, we will perform services on paying customers, which will be next week.  I’m sure I’ll be ready and I’m looking forward to it!

Till next time,
MNG

THE REASON FOR THIS BLOG

First of all I must say, I NEVER THOUGHT I WOULD HAVE CREATED A BLOG!  I have always wanted to obtain a cosmetology degree since I was in grammar school.  I did not want to look back at my life and wonder what would have happened if I had gone to cosmetology school.  Until now, I didn’t know how I would be able to do it but I have just taken my first professional step towards entering the wonderful world of beauty by starting a manicuring program at a cosmetology school in my area. It is my goal to eventually obtain a cosmetology degree and to open a full service salon and possibly a school.

I’m starting this blog because I know you all can help me and I hope to help someone else who is thinking of doing the same or just want to know about the nail aspect of the beauty industry.  Through this blog, I hope to be able to inform you as well as learn from you.  I’m very excited and I’m just getting started therefore, I have a lot to learn and I hope that I’m able to help some of you in the process.

Blessings!
